Dr. Nordlund named master dermatologist
MARCH 2011 – Group Health physician James J. Nordlund MD, FAAD, has received the Master Dermatologist Award from the American Academy of Dermatology. The prestigious award, presented at the Academy's annual meeting in February 2011, recognizes significant contributions to dermatology.
Dr. Nordlund received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and completed his residencies in dermatology and internal medicine at Yale University School of Medicine. Over the course of his career, he has been involved in training more than 100 dermatology residents and post-doctoral fellows from around the world.
Dr. Nordlund has done extensive research on vitiligo, a condition in which white patches develop on the skin. He is a founding member of the PanAmerican Society of Pigment Cell Research and helped start the International Federation of Pigment Cell Societies to facilitate the worldwide exchange of knowledge on pigmentation.
Author of more than 400 investigative reports and articles, Dr. Nordlund has taught in underserved countries, specifically Moshi, Tanzania, and Haiti. He lectures at annual Academy meetings and is a clinical professor of dermatology at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. He is professor emeritus at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
